You're Already Qualified
A witness in a courtroom is not the lawyer. A witness is not the judge, and a witness has not read every law book in the library. A witness simply tells what they saw. That's the entire job, and it's the job Jesus gave every believer: "you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

The Bar Is Lower Than You Think
Most people who avoid evangelism assume it requires a seminary degree, a flawless grasp of theology, and an answer for every hard question a skeptic could throw at them. None of that is true. It helps to grow in those things over time, and later parts of this series will build your toolkit. But the entry requirement for being a witness is simple: you have to know what happened to you.
You were somewhere before Christ. Something changed. You're somewhere different now. That's not a theology exam; it's a fact pattern, and you're the only person alive who can testify to it with full authority, because you were there when it happened.
Peter and John Make the Case
When the religious authorities in Jerusalem ordered Peter and John to stop talking about Jesus, they gave an answer that cuts through every excuse a modern believer can invent: "we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard" (Acts 4:20). Notice what they didn't say. They didn't say, "Let us prepare a systematic defense." They said they couldn't stop describing what they had personally witnessed.
That's the posture this whole series is built around: not persuasion by force of argument alone, though argument has its place, but witness through simple, honest description of what you know to be true.
Fear Is Normal. It Isn't Disqualifying.
Moses told God he wasn't a good enough speaker to confront Pharaoh (Exodus 4:10). Jeremiah told God he was too young to be a prophet (Jeremiah 1:6). Every person God has ever sent to speak on His behalf has had a reason ready to hand back. God's answer to Moses wasn't a speech class. It was a promise: "I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak" (Exodus 4:12).
If your hesitation is about competence, that promise applies to you too. You are not sent out alone, and you are not expected to perform. You are expected to tell the truth about what Christ has done, in your own words, at your own pace.
What This Series Will Actually Give You
The chapters ahead will hand you real tools: how to build and shorten your own testimony, a simple five-step framework for walking someone through the gospel, and practical guidance on starting and closing a conversation without pressure or awkwardness. None of it replaces the Holy Spirit's work in someone's heart. All of it exists to make you ready when He opens a door.
You don't need more credentials before you start. You need a clear sense of your own story and the confidence that telling it is worth doing. That's what comes next.
