Jesus' Deity: New Testament Verses
Jesus’ Deity: New Testament
Where did Jesus say, “I am God, worship me”?
Demonstrating the deity of Jesus through Old Testament (OT) fulfillments is a central theme of the New Testament (NT). Often, this is shown when NT authors take a passage that originally referred to YHWH (the LORD) and apply it directly to Jesus.
Here is an example from each of the 27 books of the New Testament:
The Gospels & Acts
Matthew 1:23: Fulfills - Isaiah 7:14. Jesus is called "Immanuel," which literally means "God with us."
Mark 1:2–3: Fulfills - Isaiah 40:3. John the Baptist prepares the way for Jesus, but the OT text says the way is being prepared for YHWH.
Luke 8:22–25: Fulfills - Psalm 107:29. Jesus calms the storm, a power the OT attributes exclusively to God.
John 8:58: Fulfills - Exodus 3:14. Jesus claims the divine name "I AM," asserting His eternal existence before Abraham.
Acts 2:34–36: Fulfills - Psalm 110:1. Peter argues that Jesus is the "Lord" to whom the Father spoke, seated at the right hand of God.
The Pauline Epistles

Ephesians 4:8: Fulfills - Psalm 68:18. Paul applies a Psalm about God’s triumphal ascent to Jesus’ ascension.
Philippians 2:10–11: Fulfills - Isaiah 45:23. God swears that "to Me every knee shall bow," which Paul applies to the name of Jesus.
Colossians 1:16: Fulfills - Psalm 102:25. Jesus is identified as the Creator of all things, a role reserved for God alone.

2 Thessalonians 1:7–8: Fulfills - Isaiah 66:15. Jesus returns in "flaming fire" to execute judgment, a description of YHWH's appearance in the OT.
1 Timothy 3:16: Fulfills - the "mystery of godliness." He who was "manifested in the flesh" (referencing the Incarnation of the Divine Word).
